Yanco-Wamoon Hawks vs Yenda BlueHeelers | Group 20 | 1st Grade| Match Report

In ideal weather conditions, this past Sunday saw two teams doing very well so far in their 2025 campaigns
in Yanco-Wamoon Hawks hosting Yenda BlueHeelers at Yanco SportsGround.

Yanco-Wamoon kicked off the meeting between the two sides, and it was all Hawks ball early on
with 2 Tries in quick succession from Halfback Caleb Atkinson, including one stupendous length of the field effort,
fending off two opposing defenders to cross for a four-pointer.

Yenda hit back just before half-time through the efforts of Tikiko Noke, closing the margin to just a two-point deficit
heading into half-time, with a score of 8-6.

Yenda opened the second half kicking off to The Hawks, who didn’t take long to open their scoring account,
taking just five minutes to score with a try to Fullback Shayden Freer, followed up by a third try sealing the hat-trick for Caleb Atkinson.

Not to be outdone, Yenda found their way back into the match, creating a true bush footy contest.
A penalty goal in the 71st minute and a converted try in the 76th minute sealed a draw.

Full-Time Score 18-18, both sides ended up inseparable by the final siren.

Coach’s Comment |
Yanco-Wamoon Hawks Head Coach

How were Yenda as opponents?
“Yenda were very strong and played tactical as their halves did well to apply pressure in curtain areas
to put us in under the pump and provided a very good kicking game”.

Where did the team excel?
“We got away to a good start and that's more credit to our forwards providing good go forward
to build some good momentum however Yenda kept composed and took the opportunities
when it presented and put them back in the game with a great second half”.

Where and how could they improve for next week's match against Leeton?
“Leeton Greenies are a really good side - we are rebuilding and have a new team,
we have a lot to do and improve on if we want to complete well this weekend, but will do our best to prep well for a good local Derby.
They have allot of talent, forwards are strong and fit some gun backs and Shan leading the pack with a young emerging half under his wing
they will be tough to beat but confident the boys will be excited for the weekend”.
