Jarryd Hayne Returns To Rugby League
I recently spoke with Wenty and Jarryd about his return to playing this week when named as a starting half for their Ron Massey Cup Side, and here’s what he had to say:
“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to return to the field with the Wenty Magpies. Football has always been a huge part of my life, and getting back out there in a team environment is something I’ve truly missed. I’m focused on having fun and enjoying the game again, contributing wherever I can, and putting in the hard work week in, and week out. I want to thank the club and the local community for their support. I'm excited for what’s ahead."
Wentworthville’s President Rod Pritchard had this to say:
"We’re pleased to welcome Jarryd Hayne to the squad for this weekend’s game. He’s been training hard, showing real commitment and professionalism since joining the group. His experience and natural football ability bring a new dynamic to the team, and we’re looking forward to seeing him back doing what he loves. Our focus remains on building momentum this season, and Jarryd's return adds to the excitement within the club and the broader football community."
Given Jarryd hasn’t played any level of league like this in a few years with the exception of the Premier Nines, there is of course, reason to question his Fitness and in response, here’s what the Dual Dally M Winner had to say:
"Any time you come back from a long layoff it’s going to be hard. No doubt there will be a few cobwebs on the weekend. It’s all part of the process."
Jarryd could have chosen any club to make his return with but he chose Wentworthville, and I wanted to know why; here’s what the President of the club had to say:
"Jarryd was keen to get involved with a local club that both he and his young family could become involved in. It is pretty special for both a father and son to play at the same club, wearing the same jersey for their respective sides each weekend."
